I think on the 003 you also have DI inputs, which are like a built in DI box. you will need a di or preamp to fully utilize them for anything other than output.To clarify that - the 003 like the 002 has 4 mic/line inputs - these have built-in mic amps, and hence the reason they've got XLRs, gain controls, pad and hi-pass switches, and phantom power.
