On going support, management and scheduling of the data extraction, loading, validation, transformation and publishing processes Monitoring of data quality and resolution of problems in amalgamating operational data Developing amendments or additional functions after changes to operational systems or new business management information requirements These processes include: Understanding source operational data Developing the extraction of the appropriate data from the source operational systems Loading the data into an Operational Data Store to enable the data to be analysed Validating and amalgamating like data across all operational systems Transforming this data into a suitable format to allow analytical business review into a Data Warehouse Publishing the data into a Data Mart so that business users can access and retrieve the data for further local analysis. The Reporting programme will rely on a complex data management process. If you would like a copy and our ETL scorecard send me an email to Introduction The purpose of this document is to describe the process of the search and selection for an appropriate 3rd party Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) or Extract-Load-Transform (ELT) tool to aid in the development of the Data Warehouse and to aid with the forthcoming programme of work during 20. Informatica also has a meta data product which delivers data-lineage and traceability now called Meta Data Manager( was Superglue). We have found that Informatica actually delivers productivity gains suggested in research literature and we are extremely happy with our choice. _ _ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Is it rea lly an ETL tool or a more sophisticated scheduler and data warehouse obje ct manager? Sent: Friday, Decem10:46:20 PM Subject: Re: D ataStage vs Informatica (Wherescape?)

– Original Message - From: Martyn Richard Jones via dw-select To: td_was_her… We thought we had to do all the database work by hand, which is why w e looked at Sunopsis, but WhereScape is much more like a meta layer over the database than than using another product which is what we wanted.

If you are an ETL kinda person and looking for ETL kind of functionality I wouldn’t buy it as an ETL tool, but as far as software for building and managing the data warehouse it ro cks. You are right on the scheduler, that is included, but main th ing we like is the generated documentation.

It is really good for prototyping, you can drag and drop to generate new data warehouse objects l ike fact tables, dimension tables, indexes, cubes etc and all the loading, staging and publishing update logic is generated as standard database propc edural code. Its ETL capabilities are simplistic – basically ju st uses native database load funtionality, idea is get the data into the da ta warehouse database and do all the work in there. Focus in on manipulating the data once it is in the data warehouse, not moving the d ata into the warehouse. Kind of – they call it data warehouse software not ETL software.
